MOCA cops charged with corruption granted bail

Two policemen who were arrested for allegedly attempting to solicit funds from an individual who was being questioned in relation to an ongoing MOCA investigation have been granted bail.
The two cops are Corporal Omar Lobban and Constable Remore Thomas, and are attached MOCA, which is the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency.
They were each offered bail in the sum of 800 thousand dollars with one to three sureties when they appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court for breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act on Tuesday.
Stop orders were also placed on them.
Lobban and Thomas are scheduled to re-appear in court on October 12.
Thomas was arrested on Monday as he allegedly attempted to solicit funds from an individual who was being questioned in relation to an ongoing MOCA investigation.
His alleged accomplice, Corporal Lobban, was arrested following continued investigations.
Meanwhile, MOCA says it views the unprecedented acts by these officers as a serious breach of its high integrity and professional standards.
The agency says the prompt and decisive action by its staff in investigating and putting the matter before the court is a demonstration of MOCA’s resolve and commitment in stamping out corruption.
