Donovan Stanberry

The permanent secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture hit the front pages after he admitted last week that he and other senior members of the ministry have received loans under the European Union (EU) funded Cane Expansion Fund. Stanberry's admission sparked concerns as EU officials warned that if the Fund was mismanaged it would have implications for future payments under the project.

Shanique Myrie

There is no back page for the woman who came to prominence after winning a free-movement case against Barbados. This time, Myrie was back in the headlines as her application to run as a candidate for the People's National Party in the next local government election was last week approved.

Don Creary

The former Jamaica Labour Party councillor was arrested and charged along with Shaneke Williams on sex charges. It is alleged that in 2013, Creary and Williams took a 15-year-old girl to an apartment in St Mary where she was allegedly given alcoholic beverages before she was sexually assaulted.

Lynvale Bloomfield

The incumbent member of parliament (MP) for East Portland suffered defeat to challenger Andrea Moore in an intra-party selection exercise in the constituency. However, Bloomfield, the first-time MP, has not given up hope that he will be the People's National Party's standard-bearer in the constituency in the next general election.

Hugh Buchanan

The member of parliament for St Elizabeth South West beat back challenger Ewan Stephenson by 14 votes, receiving 147 votes from delegates to Stephenson's 133, to retain the right to represent the party in the constituency in the next general election.

Nicolas Maduro

The Venezuelan president visited the island last week for the 10th Anniversary Commemorative Summit of the PetroCaribe Agreement. He pledged to build a comprehensive plan for PetroCaribe in the next 10 years, spanning 2015-2025.

Simon Dawkins

The Jamaican forward came off the bench to score the country's all-important second goal in the return leg of the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying match in Managua. Dawkins' 89th-minute strike carried the Reggae Boyz to a 2-0 win on the night and a narrow 4-3 aggregate victory.
