G2K to gov't: Remove tax from water conservation items

The Young Professional Affiliate of the Jamaica Labour Party Generation 2000 (G2K) wants the government to remove the tax on items used to promote water conservation.

G2K president, Mathew Samuda, made the call at a press conference this morning as the group decried, the Water Minister, Robert Pickersgill’s handling of the water crisis.

According to the G2K president, Pickersgill has been missing in action.

Jamaica has been battling an ongoing drought which has seen the National Water Commission having to introduce restrictions.

Samuda says tax exemption on water conservation products would help Jamaicans to better cope with the drought.

Meanwhile, the G2K president says the increased water restrictions show a lack of leadership and planning on the part of the Government given that the drought is a regular occurrence.

Samuda is calling for Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller to address the water problems currently faced by several communities across the island.
