Morant Bay High student in hospital after early-morning fire

A fourth form male student from the Morant Bay High School in St Thomas is now in hospital following a fire which destroyed his home in York this morning.

According to police reports, about 4:30 a.m. residents saw fire coming from the building and alerted the fire department.

One unit from the Morant Bay fire department responded.

Residents of the York community told The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre that the fire was allegedly started by a man who resides at the house following an argument with his wife.

The man who is being sought by the police has since fled the area.

Police say damage to the seven apartment house is valued at $8 million.
