UPDATED: Protests in the PNP dominating discussions among Comrades
Political protests which have resurfaced in North Trelawny, Eastern Portland and North East St Elizabeth have been featuring in discussions among Comrades gathered at the Riu Hotel in St Ann for the People's National Party (PNP's) candidates' preparation retreat.
It's understood that the Comrades are concerned about what is described as a troubling new trend by disgruntled PNP supporters to resort to public protests.
News emerged this morning that although Member of Parliament, Raymond Pryce, has not been seen in North East St Elizabeth, since he announced his withdrawal as a candidate for the seat in the upcoming General Election, the office he occupies in Santa Cruz, was set on fire.
In Eastern Portland, supporters of Andrea Moore, who narrowly won a selection contest over incumbent Member of Parliament, Dr Lynvale Bloomfield, last night demonstrated in Port Antonio as the party prepared for the retreat.
They were upset that the PNP has overruled the delegates vote and has inserted Dr Bloomfield for the next election.
There was also unease in North Trelawny as supporters of Member of Parliament, Patrick Atkinson protested after news circulated that he will be replaced.
*Earlier, this story had said a fire at the North East St Elizabeth constituency office was among the issues which dominated discussions at the candidates' preparation retreat. That was not correct. The issue, however, was being discussed by Comrades in St Ann for the retreat.
