West Kingston Enquiry: Mentally ill man killed inside my apartment, says witness

A Tivoli Gardens resident this morning testified how a man with mental illness who was visiting him during the May 2010 police-military operations was killed inside his apartment.
He also said he watched two Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) soldiers remove the body in one of his bed sheets.
Lancelot Bailey was testifying before the West Kingston Commission of Enquiry as public hearings resumed at the Jamaica Conference Centre in downtown Kingston.
Bailey recounted that amid heavy gunfire and the sounds of loud explosions on the night of May 24, 2010 he left his visitor, 31-year-old Decorey Wright, more popularly known as 'Ernie', inside his fourth floor apartment to go to his neighbour's third floor apartment.
He said he went back to his apartment to tell Wright to turn off the radio and returned to his neighbour's house from which he saw police and soldiers racing to his apartment.
He said while he was in his neighbour’s house he could hear police and soldiers in his apartment.
He said he also heard shooting in his apartment.
The Tivoli Gardens resident testified that the following morning while standing on his neighbour's veranda he saw two soldiers coming from his house with a body wrapped in one of his sheets.

During cross-examination by attorney for the Jamaica Constabulary Force Deborah Martin he conceded that he did not see the body that was wrapped in the sheet, but insisted that it was Wright.
