Raymond Wilson takes analytics to another level

Raymond Wilson, manager of analytics at British Caribbean Insurance Company (BCIC), was the only Caribbean national to attend the International Actuarial Association's (IAA) prestigious 2015 conference held recently in Sydney, Australia. His invitation was based on his co-authored paper on data analytics which was granted funding by the IAA.
The research paper outlined advances in the actuarial field, which was sent to the Non-Life section of the IAA and was approved to be published as a guidance to the actuarial profession on the use of analytics to create a data-driven organisation. Wilson was recommended to the IAA to represent the working party on data analytics at the conference.
The IAA not only approved the recommendation but also granted Wilson full funding to attend the conference. He addressed the general assembly of almost 200 delegates, speaking on the effectiveness of the working party as well as deliver a presentation to them.
AMAZING FEELING
"It feels amazing, somewhat surreal. When I first agreed to join a group of people from across the world, I never imagined it would have propelled me to the place where I would be co-author of a paper and being flown to present it at one of the most prestigious conferences in the actuarial profession. Being in Sydney and being able to represent my country and the Caribbean well is just icing on the cake," Wilson said.
"The session was a very important as, one knows, being able to conduct research within your profession and being recognised globally for it is the ultimate achievement that any young, highly motivated professional could aspire to," Wilson said.
With over six years' experience in pricing insurance products, reserving and analytics, Wilson holds a bachelor of science in economics and mathematics from the University of the West Indies. He has been pivotal in helping BCIC create value for their customers, through the use of data and analytics.
