Man in custody after mowing cop to death on Highway 2000

A 27-year-old man is in custody in connection with the death of a policeman who was mowed down on the Clarendon leg of Highway 2000. 

The deceased cop has been identified as 30-year-old Malikai Edwards of the Mobile Reserve. 

He was run over by a truck driven by the unnamed 27-year-old man from Broadleaf in Manchester.

It's reported that Constable Edwards was travelling along the highway when he stopped along a section after his vehicle developed mechanical problems.  

He reportedly exited the vehicle to effect repairs.

It's reported that he was hit down by the truck while walking along the side of the road. 

Edwards' legs were broken and he also received injuries to the head and other parts of the body. 

He was taken to the May Pen Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.
