STEAM is the Catalyst for Caribbean Youths

Professor Errol Morrison, director general of the National Commission on Science and Technology, delivered the keynote address to the Barbados Community College 42nd graduation ceremony on Saturday, November 7.

Morrison, who is renowned for his passion for science and its contribution to human development and growth, told graduates that "science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) serve as a catalyst for growth of young people in the Caribbean. They can provide innovative opportunities in the Caribbean, thereby promoting a 'brain gain' rather than a 'brain drain', allowing for greater interaction between the diaspora and the international community."

GRADUATES

The graduation ceremony saw 1,016 graduates being conferred with 16 postgraduate diplomas; 38 bachelor's degrees; 20 post associate degree diplomas; 129 community college certificates and 818 associate degrees in the areas of arts, science, applied arts and applied science.

Following his address, Professor Morrison had breakfast with leading educators in Barbados.
