Extreme! High Command raise threat level against police

Published:Thursday | November 19, 2015 | 12:00 AM

The Police High Command has raised to extreme the threat level against security personnel.

Extreme means that attacks against Police officers, on or off duty, are imminent.

This comes in light of the fatal shooting of Travaughn James yesterday on Seaton Crescent in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland.

James is the brother of Ricardo Kerr, otherwise called ‘Jawbone’ who escaped from the Savanna-La-Mar Police Lock-up on June 6; he is wanted for several counts of murder and shooting.

The Police High Command is urging all cops to take this threat assessment seriously and raise their level of awareness and anticipation on, and especially off duty.

Members are also being reminded that they have the full support of the Police High Command, and that it is lawful to use as much force as is necessary (in keeping with the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Use of Force and Firearm Policy, and Human Rights Policy) to defend themselves, their colleagues and citizens against any attack.
