Three-month amnesty for Portmore residents in breach of building codes

The Portmore Municipal Council is to embark on a three-month amnesty in December, to regularise building code violators. 

The amnesty, which will target residential buildings, will run from December one to March one.  

In a newspaper advertisement yesterday, the Council said persons who breached the Parish Council and the Town and Country Planning acts by constructing without approved building plans will have an opportunity to remedy the problem though the amnesty. 

It says building applications must be made to the Council within the amnesty period.

Under the amnesty, hoarding and penalty fees will be waived while persons over 60 years old will be required to pay 50 per cent of the building fees.

All other persons will pay 80 per cent.
