KSAC says it won't relax downtown Kingston vending rules for Christmas

The Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC) is warning vendors in downtown Kingston that it will not be relaxing its rules for the upcoming Christmas season.

Town Clerk, Robert Hill, says the decision was taken after vendors last year violated measures put in place to accommodate illegal vendors and vending.

He says most of the violations took place on Beckford Street and the situation will not be allowed to repeat itself this year.

Meanwhile, Hill is urging vendors to make use of spaces in the markets and arcades.

He admits that it will be difficult to police the area during the holidays given the limited staff and expected increase in pedestrian traffic.

However, he says the council will be doing all it legally can to keep sidewalks and streets clear of illegal vendors.

Hill stresses that this is important to ensure order in the city and reduce the likelihood of criminals posing as vendors.
