The University of Technology (UTech) has been plunged into mourning again following the death of a 23-year-old engineering student in a car crash in Portmore, St Catherine.

The police say the deceased is Kaestner Jackson of Greater Portmore.

They say he was driving a Silver Daihatsu Terios mini SUV that collided with a car that was heading in the opposite direction on Sunday night.

Jackson and the driver of the other vehicle were reportedly assisted to the Spanish Town hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.

The UTech Student Union says Jackson was a student in the School of Engineering at the university's Papine-based campus.

Earlier this month, 22-year-old Shanique Walters, a medical student at UTech, was shot dead during an alleged attempted robbery while on her way home in Hope Pastures, St Andrew.
