Tredegar Park Primary gets numeracy, literacy boost

TREDEGAR PARK, St Catherine:
A collaborative effort by the St Catherine North Police and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Comet 2 has resulted in the donation of a printer to Tredegar Park Primary School.
The donation which forms part of the Police Week celebrations aimed at fostering a better relationship between the police and its community outreach efforts.
"We find that the police are the first step between the community and the youth who are in need of help. We also think that this donation will help lift the level of cooperation," Deputy Superintendent of Police Hector Cummings said.
He noted that the Community Safety and Security Branch also worked with the Safe Schools Programme of which Tredegar Park Primary School figured prominently.
Celomie Henry, vice-principal said last week's donation will help to improve literacy and numeracy at the school.
TREMENDOUS HELP
"We sometimes have a severe shortage of books and stationery. Therefore, this donation will help tremendously," Henry said.
Meanwhile, Donaree Muirhead of USAID said it is working with the police and school to foster a better relationship.
"We are pleased to partner with the police. We have helped with a chicken-raising project here and this can only strengthen the project of youth empowerment," Muirhead said.
