Police are now combing sections of Mammee Bay, St Ann in search of two men who fled a vehicle transporting 893 pounds of marijuana.

Investigators believe the ganja was destined for Haiti.

Police say they are following several leads.

Reports are that shortly after 6 p.m. on Saturday, cops carrying out a spot-check in the area saw the men unloading the contraband from a Toyota RAV4 SUV.

Upon the approach of the police the men ran, abandoning the vehicle, the drugs and 31 barrels of gasoline.

The police suspect the fuel was to be used to transport the drugs to the neighbouring island.
