Trial of husband charged with murdering his wife enters fifth week

The trial of 64-year-old businessman, Bertram Clarke, who is accused of murdering his wife in 2007, will enter its fifth week today in the Home Circuit Court in downtown Kingston. 

Twenty-two-year-old Arthur Robinson, is also on trial with the businessman. 

Both have been charged with the killing of 74-year-old Florist Clarke on October 27, 2007. 

She was found at her home in Watt Town, St Ann with her head bashed in and throat slashed and died a day later at the Kingston Public Hospital. 

The Crown is alleging that the husband plotted with two boys from the Brown's Town High School in St Ann to carry out the murder. 

It's alleged that Robinson was one of the boys. 

The other one, Emmanuel Newman, pleaded guilty in 2011 and is serving a 15-year prison sentence. 

He's now a prosecution witness and last week, he told the court that he did not know the husband nor his alleged schoolmate. 

He said he saw them for the first time when they were charged. 

The Crown is represented by Senior Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, Lisa Palmer Hamilton and Crown Counsel, Natalie Morgan.

The businessman is represented by Oswest Senior Smith, while attorney-at-law Donald Bryan appears for Robinson.

Justice Gloria Smith is presiding at the trial.
