Police kill one of six Mobay prison escapees, recapture two

One of the six prisoners who escaped the Montego Bay police lock-up on November 30 has been killed by police and two others recaptured.

The police have revealed that they shot and killed Benjamin Stephens, 20, of Dias, Lucea, Hanover who was charged for murder, during a confrontation in Spring Mount, St James about 12:30 Friday afternoon.

A nine-millimetre pistol and three nine-millimetre rounds were seized during the incident. The fatal shooting has been reported to the Independent Commission of Investigations. 

Meanwhile, the police say coordinated efforts led to the apprehension of two of the six escapees.

The men were captured in snap operations in Westmoreland and St Thomas earlier today and yesterday.

They are:
• 30-year-old Randy Murray, a labourer of Landillo, Phase 6, Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland who was charged with illegal possession of firearm.

• 32-year-old Gregory Roberts, otherwise called ‘Greg’, a labourer of Maroon Town, St James who was charged with robbery with aggravation.

The police are still on the hunt for:

• 26-year-old, Shaniel Luton of Farm Heights, St James who was convicted of murder and should have been sentenced on Friday, December 4.

• 30-year-old Kelvin Hodge, a labourer of Barnett Town, St James who was charged with four counts of murder

• Marcus Robinson, a 34-year-old higgler of Doom Street, Montego Bay, St James, who was charged for illegal possession of firearm.

The police are asking anyone with information that can lead to the recapture of these prisoners to call the Montego Bay police at 953-6191, the Police 119 emergency number or the nearest police station.
