NWC undertakes emergency work along North Street in downtown Kingston
Motorists and persons living in the vicinity of North Street in downtown Kingston are being advised to expect intermittent delays as the National Water Commission (NWC) undertakes remedial works on a major sewer line.
The NWC says the work will commence today and will continue through to Sunday, January 30, 2016.
The utility company says the emergency work is aimed at correcting a fault to a section of the nearly 100-year-old sewer main along a section of North Street.
It says areas such as Wildman Street, Rum Lane, Central Avenue and Georges Lane will be affected.
The NWC explains that, as a result of the repair programme, there will be an unavoidable closure of the section of North Street, extending from its intersection with Rum Lane to its intersection with Central Avenue.
The agency says motorists will experience traffic delays and diversions in that area of the city.
The NWC is urging motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area of work wherever possible and obey the signs and flag persons if they must use the area.
Meanwhile, the agency says water supply may also be disrupted from time to time.
