The Golden Anchors singing for the Lord
Port Antonio, Portland
With the belief that God provides everyone with varying, but special gifts, members of the group Golden Anchors are on a mission to spread and proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ through their message in song.
The group, which comprises team leader Eric Spence, Canute Myers, Denton Adams, and the newest addition Javaughn Clarke - a teenager, has been creating waves across the length and breadth of the island. They have performed in every parish, with the exception of Westmoreland and Clarendon.
"I decided that I wanted to do something for the Lord," commented Spence.
"I was in the world, but I got converted, and in 2011 I took the decision to organise this group. We perform mostly at church functions, concerts, and funerals. We represent North East Jamaica Conference of Seventh-day Adventists wherever they have functions, and it is really a great experience thus far. We are enjoying singing for the Lord and spreading our message in song," he added.
ALBUM PLANS
Myers, who is an evangelist, explained that they (group members) are planning some serious work for next year, which could see them producing their first album.
"To sing with the Golden Anchors is a blessing," said Myers. "Music has a way of lifting you up out of your state of depression and trials. Whenever I go out to preach, the group is always there and that's a natural blend - where I am able to proclaim God's word and engage in singing," he added.
But while the group is yet to do its first official recording, songs like Child, Child Why Do You Wander?', Why Did They Crucify My Lord, and My Soul in Sad Exile Was Out on Life's Sea are some of the favourites among their audience.
Clarke, the youngest member, who sings bass, is excited about joining the group and considers the experience gained as invaluable.
Denton Adams, who has been with the group since its inception, said that despite the many challenges that they have encountered, they have managed to stick to their work of delivering the Gospel message in song.
"Our main focus is to serve God to the best of our ability and to go from church to church ministering the gospel, so that we can save souls for the Kingdom," he said.
