Several Clarendon students still refusing to take gov't approved school buses

An accident, which led to the injury of several students of the Garvey Maceo High School in May Pen yesterday has raised fresh concerns about the success of the pilot of a rural bus system being rolled out in Clarendon by the Government.

The Transport Authority has since launched an investigation into the accident which they say involved an illegal vehicle, but has lamented the fact that efforts to implement a Safe Schools Bus Programme in the parish has been met with resistance.

The Authority has said some students from the participating schools refused to take the designated buses and has called on civic groups in Clarendon to help galvanise support for the programme.

Minister of Transport and Works, Dr Omar Davies last year revealed that the rural bus system being implemented by the Transport Authority was being met with unexpected resistance from students.

The Safe School Bus Programme was launched in February of last year.
