Whether you eat or drink it, January is the month dedicated to the enjoyment of soup by Maggi. A month-long series of activities to inform and inspire persons to explore the diversity, nutrition and economics of soup, has been planned. So far, homemakers have been encouraged to include soup as a regular part of the family's weekday menu.

"Soup is popular among Jamaicans because it is so versatile, filling, easy to prepare and very economical. This year, we have expanded the activities planned for Soup Month to share the benefits and joy of soup with Jamaicans of all walks of life across the island," said Wendy Robertson, consumer marketing manager at NestlÈ.

Activities include sampling in supermarkets, giveaways, a cooking competition and farmers' markets in Kingston and Montego Bay. The Maggi promotional team has already visited a number of supermarkets to surprise unsuspecting consumers with Maggi's 'Soupa' gift baskets.

"We randomly selected customers at supermarkets and presented them with baskets filled with all the ingredients they need to make a pot of soup for dinner," Robertson said.

The team recently surprised two charities that have focused their efforts on feeding the indigent in Kingston and Montego Bay. God's Soup Kitchen Outreach Foundation in Kingston and the Open Heart Charitable Mission in Montego Bay received a $50,000 donation, and a six-month supply of Maggi soup.

The Maggi team has engaged consumers in a debate mooted: 'Do you eat soup or drink soup?' Maggi's Facebook page has been inundated with consumers responding to this question and voting.

At the end of Soup Month, Maggi will report which expression is the overwhelming favourite among Jamaicans.

Maggi Soup Month concludes on Friday, January 29, with a grand Farmers' Market along Knutsford Boulevard.
