Simpson Miller says she doesn't get involved in candidate selection unless report made

People's National Party president, Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller says in the past she has removed candidates selected to represent the party in general elections but, only after consultation with party officials.

Responding to criticisms of an untidy candidate selection process, Simpson Miller said individuals have been selected who were not fit to be representatives of the PNP.

She says she is not involved in the selection process, as the party has structures and competent leaders to marshal the process,

However, the party leader says she does get involved when a candidate is reported.

She says she did not receive such a call regarding any candidate for the upcoming election.

Former general secretary Peter Bunting says the party's integrity commission usually weeds out those deemed unfit, before ratification is made.

Bunting made it clear that the selection process is not something in which the party would become involved.
