Police investigating sale of government and private land in Dallas Mountain

The Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch (C-TOC) has launched an investigation into allegations of the illegal sale and distribution of Government and privately owned land in Dallas Mountain, St Andrew.

A report from the Constabulary Communication Unit (CCU) last night indicated that the investigation follows reports that hundreds of persons have paid over monies towards the cutting of roads and cleaning plots of land allocated to them or to secure an interest in obtaining lots.

In December last year, The Gleaner reported that lots were reportedly being sold from $3,000 to $25,000 in a project being led by the Bedward Gardens Providence Society.

However, minister without portfolio in the housing ministry, Dr Morais Guy had indicated that the State has sanctioned no land-distribution programme in the area.

In last night's release, Senior Superintendent of Police Clifford Chambers said no authorisation was granted to any person or institition to undertake such activity and as a result the action is a breach of the law.

The police are appealing to persons who were allotted lots or who have paid monies to secure lots to contact C-TOC by calling 948-5906 or 922-5587 or visiting the branch's office at 34 Duke Street Kingston.
