New traffic signals on Mandela Highway, North-South intersection

Published:Thursday | March 3, 2016 | 12:00 AM

Pedestrian and vehicular movement through the intersection of Mandela Highway and the North-South Highway in St. Catherine will now be controlled by traffic signal, which took effect yesterday.

The signals have been erected as part of the National Works Agency's (NWA) overall effort at improving the safety of road users in the area. Manager Communication and Customer Services of the NWA, Stephen Shaw, said that the new signals will facilitate:

* Vehicular movement from the North South Highway towards Spanish Town

* Traffic turning right from the Mandela highway onto the North South highway

* Motorist heading west from the directions of Six Miles.

Pedestrians are being encouraged to use the push button system that has been installed at the intersection in order to safely cross the intersection.
