UPDATE: Big budget cut - Gov't tables $580b Estimates, almost 28 per cent less than last year's

The government is proposing to spend approximately $580 billion for this fiscal year.

That's less than the $808 billion that was approved in a Supplementary Estimates for the last fiscal year.

The Estimates of Expenditure was tabled in the House of Representatives this afternoon.

The Estimates show a total planned expenditure of $579.93 billion.
