Hope soars - School for special needs students gets donation

Mona Information Technology Services (MITS), a department on the University of the West Indies, Mona campus, recently gave a helping hand to the Randolph Lopez School of Hope by presenting the institution with a washing machine.

The school, which was established to cater to the social and intellectual needs of students with special needs, recently hosted its annual children's day treat and MITS played its part in making the day special.

Accepting the gift

In accepting the gift, principal of the school, Sylvestina Reid, noted that the washing machine will be used in its home-management programme.

"This generous offer reminds us of the importance of community building. Additionally, it was an appropriate gift that will lend support to the students by fostering the students' home-management skills, as well as promote the school's mission which is ... Preparing students with intellectual and other developmental disabilities to take their rightful place in Jamaica's ever-changing society by giving them the tools to help themselves," said Reid.

"We are really elated that MITS came on board to support the work of the school and to bring hope to its children," added Reid.
