Teamwork leads to improved GSAT results at Ocho Rios primary

Principal Gertrude McFarlane is hailing the efforts of her team of several grade-six teachers at Ocho Rios Primary School for an improved showing by students in this year's Grade Six Achievement Test.

"Students were anxious at first,. but after hearing the results they were all excited," McFarlane told The Gleaner.

"It's the first year we have not seen students crying, all students were happy. The results were good and we've seen good improvement over last year. I just want to say thanks to all the teachers who have played a part in preparing the student for this special moment."

Bryana Traille emerged top overall performer, with scores of language arts 96, mathematics 95, science 95, social studies 95 and communication task, nine out of 12. She will attend St Hilda's Diocesan in Brown's Town come September.

"I'm very excited and happy. I want to say thanks to my parents and my teachers for helping to motivate me," she said.

She has promised to continue during well at St Hilda's.

Keneil Clarke, who will attend his first-choice school, York Castle High, is the top male performer at Ocho Rios Primary with scores of language arts 95, science 88, mathematics 86, social studies 86 and communication task, eight out of 12.

"I am happy I got through to go to York Castle," Keneil said.
