Gov't actively monitoring global environment for opportunities in light of Brexit

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says there is no doubt that Thursday’s historic vote for Britain to leave the European Union (EU) will have implications for Jamaica on several levels.

However, Holness says his administration is actively monitoring and assessing the global environment to position the country to take advantage of new developments.

In a statement yesterday, the Prime Minister said his government remains committed to working closely with its UK and EU partners, particularly in the areas of trade, security, investment and development cooperation.

Britain narrowly voted to end its membership in the 28-nation bloc in a referendum on Thursday, sending shock waves through financial markets across the Globe.

Holness praised British Prime Minister David Cameron for the many initiatives he implemented to re-engage the Commonwealth Caribbean and for what he described as his principled decision to resign.
