New deal for New Day Primary and Junior High

In an effort to strengthen the existing infrastructure and improve the overall aesthetics of the New Day Primary and Junior High School, the school's alumni is undertaking a Homecoming Week from June 28 to July 3.
According to Joni Williams, the school's alumni coordinator, the event will be held under the theme 'School is a Community Effort', and will seek to strengthen the ties between the school and the community.
"A series of events will be held geared at improving the school's relations with the community and its alumni and generate much needed funds to assist with repairs at the institution. The school is over 50 years and, therefore, most of the infrastructure is old. The school also needs basic items such as tables and chairs," Williams said.
She said the school also wants to introduce new skills training courses for those students who are interested in acquiring training in technical areas.
"New Day would also like to acquire equipment in order to offer courses such as hairdressing and barbering to older students in order to increase their marketability when entering the labour force," Williams said.
"We also want to strengthen the school's Mathematics department and improve access to the use of computers. We are also thinking of adding audiovisual aids to ensure the school and the students are on par with 21st century technological requirements," added Williams.
FUNDRAISING
From the 'Homecoming Week' of activities, the alumni is hoping to raise $1 million towards the various projects. Three fundraising activities will be held over the one week period. These will include a cocktail reception on June 28 at the Stella Maris Aquatic Centre at 7 p.m., a lyme at the Barbican Beach on July 1, and a gala at the Terra Nova Hotel, on July 3, with Minister of Justice, Delroy Chuck as the guest speaker.
