Obistan Kinder Prep nurturing the total child

It is the time of year when many parents are faced with the challenge of finding the best school for their precious children who need early-childhood education.

Among the many excellent choices is Obistan Kinder Preparatory School – a Christian-based institution that instills religious values in students to nurture them in a family-oriented setting.

Founded in 1971 by the Open Bible Church, the institution has been performing exceptionally well. It is located at 12 Washington Boulevard in the Kingston 20 zip code, and offers quality education in a secure environment where parents feel at ease leaving their children.

The school’s motto, ‘Training tomorrow’s leaders today’, is embedded in the principles of spiritually awareness, mental alertness and physical fitness. Students are exposed to subjects and activities that are geared to fulfil the motto and create well-rounded students. As a result of this focus, this year’s GSAT examination produced excellent results for the school.

Office administrator of the school, Pat Hines, told The Gleaner that Obistan Kinder Prep offers kindergarten and preparatory education as well as GSAT  exam preparation, computer classes, swimming, Spanish and music.

Additional extra-curricular activities include football, karate, among other sports.

Hines also said that each student is taught to play a musical instrument and dance and the school has developed a reputation for outstanding performances in music and dance as they participate annually in festivals and competitions.

NATIONAL WINNER

Among the school’s success stories is Simona Saure, now headed to Ardenne High School, and who emerged the national winner of the Class 3 Jamaican Pop Vocal Solo 2016 at the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s competition.

She has made Obistan proud.

To register for September 2016, children age three years old need two passport pictures, their birth certificate, immunisation records and school report if accessible.

They are also assessed by the school.

“Spaces are available for Kinder-one to five students, and the classes are at a size where teachers can have one-on-one contact with all students, plus our fees are reasonably affordable,” said Hines.

Dr Clementina Williams, principal of the preparatory department, is proud of Simone Saure said the school always compete in the JCDC Festival and has its fair share of trophies to show.

Saure is only 12 year-old but she is imbibed with Christian principles and her parents are confident it is only through the work of God that she has managed to survive a near-death experience at age two.

She also believed that it is God who touched the record producer who signed her up for a music contract after hearing her young voice belt out the notes of Jimmy Cliff’s Many Rivers to Cross at a Karoake event. Because of the nurturing and training Saure received at Obistan, in addition to her talent, She is now a soloist and one of Jamaica’s youngest recording artistes.
