Logitech's Z506 speakers

Logitech's Z506 speaker system allows you to connect multiple devices at once, such as your HDTV, laptop, game console, iPod and DVD player. Setting up the Z506 is simple, as all cables and connections are colour-coded. After identifying the cords, connect all four speakers and your audio source into the back of the subwoofer and your installation is completed.

Each satellite speaker has a modern, elliptical design with gentle curves. The two-inch drivers are covered by thin, springy mesh nets and each unit has one driver and a tweeter, with the exception of the centre speaker which has two drivers.

The volume controls are placed on the right speaker and bass control on the subwoofer. One thing that we noticed was that the satellite speakers have no provisions for wall mounting, which was disappointing.

The centre satellite has a folding mechanism that clamps on to an LCD monitor and the speakers produce good-quality sound with its 75 watts of RMS power and Dolby 5.1 surround sound.

This system envelops the room, immersing you in the action. At 50 per cent volume, the presence of the speakers were felt, even though the subwoofer wasn't as powerful as we hoped. The Logitech Z506 is an inexpensive way to transform your bedroom into an audio cinematic experience, and will enhance your gaming and movie experience.

Pros:

• Inexpensive speaker system.

• Colour coded cables, simplifies the

setting-up process.

• Respectable sound quality.

Cons:

• Speakers cannot be wall mounted.

• Analog input only.

• Wires are a bit short.

The Logitech Surround Sound Speakers Z506 is available for $16,000.
