Fisheries Division loses equipment, vehicles, important documents in Friday flooding

Director of Fisheries, Andre Kong says many computer equipment, research findings and documents including licences and registration of fishers were destroyed in Friday’s flooding his Marcus Garvey Drive offices.

The flooding was triggered by drains clogged with garbage along Marcus Garvey Drive where road is also underway.

Kong could not immediately provide an estimate of the damage, but said the impact of the flooding was widespread.

He says various officials are to decide on how to deal with the damage to the vehicles of six employees and two clients.

In the meantime, Kong says counselling will be provided to those staff members who were shaken up by Friday’s happenings.

Already, clean-up activities have started but the Agriculture Ministry is looking to relocate the division to an area that is less prone to flooding.
