UK Disapora spokespersons want deportation talks with J'can gov't

Members of the Jamaican Diaspora in the United Kingdom want to meet with the Jamaican Government to discuss last week's deportation of 42 Jamaicans from the UK under what they say are questionable circumstances.
Advisory board member for London and The South, Fitzroy Grant, says a request for a meeting has been submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.
According to Grant, many Jamaicans in the UK believe that due process was not followed in the deportation of the Jamaicans.

He also says members of the Diaspora are concerned about the memorandum of understanding signed between Jamaica and the UK in 2007, to facilitate deportation.

Some of the Jamaicans who were deported last week said they were sent home despite filing appeals.
About five others who were slated to be deported last Wednesday were removed from the flight after lawyers obtained court orders staying their deportation.

Advisory board member for London and The North, Professor Cecile Wright, says the situation raises the issue of human rights and has left Jamaicans in the UK outraged.

She and Grant also said there needs to be greater transparency governing deportation.
