UPDATE: Driver in Clarendon bus crash charged

The driver responsible for last Friday's crash in which 23 students were injured in Clarendon has been charged with dangerous driving, not having a licence to operate a public passenger vehicle and other offences. 

Clovis Duncan of Muirhead district in Denbigh, Clarendon, who fled the scene of the accident last Friday has also been charged with having no road licence, failing to report an accident and operating without insurance.

He was arrested yesterday when he turned in himself to the May Pen police.

He is to make a court appearance on Wednesday to answer to the charges.

Last Friday morning, a Toyota Hiace minibus being driven by Duncan collided with a taxi and crashed in the vicinity of the Garvey Maceo High school in Vernamfield.

A 15-year-old student who sustained serious injuries had to be transferred to the University Hospital of the West Indies where he remains in intensive care.

Twenty two others were also injured.

Transport minister Mike Henry has ordered the Transport Authority to conduct a full investigation into the accident.
