The Office of Disaster Preparedness & Emergency Management (ODPEM) has announced that it will discontinue accepting items for the Haiti relief effort tomorrow.

The ODPEM has been collecting cash and non-perishable items from Jamaicans wishing to contribute to the post-Hurricane Matthew recovery effort in Haiti.

However, the agency says given the need for the Haitian economy to begin its rebuilding process, the immediate focus will be shifted from accepting in-kind contributions, to financial contributions.

The ODPEM says a final shipment will leave for Haiti on Wednesday.

Members of the public who want to help can make monetary deposits at any branch of the National Commercial Bank, to account number 21-2387304.
