NWA says no timeline yet for south coast highway improvement work

The National Works Agency (NWA) says the finance ministry should be asked to give an update on efforts to get financing to start the Southern Coastal Highway Improvement Project.
That project is set for St Andrew, St Thomas and Portland.
St Thomas Eastern MP Dr Fenton Ferguson this morning questioned the NWA on when work will begin on the project at a meeting of the Infrastructure and Physical Development Committee of Parliament.
NWA chief executive officer, EG Hunter said that money set aside in this year's budget is only for an environment impact study.
He also said due diligence is also being done on the land that will need to be acquired for the project.
However, he said there's no timeline for the start of substantive works.
Hunter noted that only the finance ministry can give an update on the financing arrangement for the project, which has to be done before any timeline for starting the project.
The Government in June signed a US$384 million contract with China Harbour Engineering Company which will be the contractors.
