Dredging to begin within shipping channel and Kingston Harbour come January
Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited, the concessionaire for the Kingston Container Terminal, says it will begin dredging within the shipping channel and Kingston Harbour next month.
The company says the work will start on January 4 and is to last for a period of six to eight months and will be executed on a 24 hour basis.
It says the shipping channel is being deepened to accommodate the New Panamax container vessels which are now passing through the region following the recent expansion of the Panama Canal.
Fishers and other marine interests are encouraged to pay close attention to warning signs and advisories.
Kingston Freeport further says it is committed to the principles of environmental sustainability and will seek to limit any potential negative impact that the dredging activities may have on the interest and livelihood of stakeholders within the Kingston Harbour.
