Yallahs Division election petition hearing set for February 14
The election petition challenging the election of councillor for the Yallahs Division in St Thomas, Dean Jones, has been set for February 14.
The petition was filed by the People’s National Party’s Constantine Bogle following the November 28, 2016 local government elections.
Bogle, who is the former councillor for the Yallahs Division, is claiming that Jones does not live in the parish and is therefore unfit to serve in the municipal corporation.
However, Jones has denied the allegations stating that he has lived in St Thomas for years and called Bogle a sore loser.
Jones and the other four JLP councillors were sworn-in following the election, however, the five PNP councillors boycotted the event after they failed to have the ceremony postponed to rectify Jone’s eligibility to sit on the Corporation.
They later protested when the JLP councillors elected both the mayor and deputy mayor.
However, the attorney general subsequently declared that the JLP councillors acted lawfully.
The PNP councillors were sworn in last week Thursday.
