Footprints | Joytha McKenzie - Well-loved and caring churchwoman

Joytha Angella McKenzie, late housewife of Four Paths, Clarendon, was born on January 25, 1956 in New Denbigh in the said parish. And there, the daughter of Victor McKenzie and Earline Brown died in the May Pen Hospital on Monday, January 16.

She was the third of their seven children. Her daughter, Shelly-Ann Thompson, said her mother was "well loved by community members and friends". She was known to assist people in her community, "especially young people and single mothers".

"My mother was a wonderful individual who gave of her last to help others. She was a very giving woman; very kind and very caring," Thompson told Footprints.

McKenzie was a member of the May Pen New Testament Church of God, where she attended service every Sunday even during her illness.

She has predeceased life partner David Messam, daughter Nakiru Wilson, son Damion Messam, four grandchildren brothers, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

"I feel sad, I feel depressed, I feel lonely. I miss her dearly. She was a loving mom and a devoted friend, was jovial, lively and fun-loving," Wilson said.
