First International Minimally Invasive Gynaecological Surgery Conference for Jamaica

Jamaica is slated to host its first International Minimally Invasive Gynaecological Surgery Conference this month.
Slated for March 21-25, the Hugh Wynter Fertility Management Unit (HWFMU) of the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona Campus will host the inaugural International Congress and Postgraduate Course in gynaecologic endoscopy in collaboration with the International Society for Gynecological Endoscopy and the Caribbean Association of Gynaecologic Endoscopic Surgeons.
The conference will have two segments - the first day, March 21, in the HWFMU at the UWI Mona Campus and the remaining days, March 22-25, at Hilton Rose Hall Hotel in Montego Bay, St James.
QUALITY OF LIFE
The conference will bring together experts from Europe, Asia, India, Australia, the United States and the Caribbean. It aims to educate and inform medical professionals about minimally invasive surgical procedures and its role in enhancing patient care and safety and ultimately their quality of life.
Free surgery for eight women
On March 21, the surgical team of visiting gynaecologic experts together with the HWFMU consultants will perform surgeries on eight Jamaican women with complicated gynaecological problems at no cost to them. These surgeries will be observed by medical professionals via telemedicine in the HWFMU lecture room.
The second segment of conference is anticipated to have 150 medical professionals engaged in the emerging medical learning strategy of case-based learning and also to be introduced to new surgical techniques to improve patient outcomes. Virtual reality training sessions will be conducted to improve and certify surgical skills in the areas of diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy among others.
