Central Clarendon MP, Opposition leader tour flood-hit Clarendon communities

Member of Parliament for Central Clarendon, Mike Henry and Opposition Leader Dr Peter Phillips, were among several officials from government agencies that toured flood-affected areas of Clarendon today.

Several homes and buildings were damaged by the floods in areas in and around May Pen.

A bridge in Jacob Hut, May Pen that was closed after a section of it collapsed, was among road infrastructure impacted by the heavy rains.

National Water Commission (NWC) mains beneath the bridge were also damaged.

The MP says the damage may have been caused by road rehabilitation work on the Soursop Turn to Chapelton main road. 

NWA Communications Manager Stephen Shaw, who was among those on tour, says poor drainage was responsible for flooding in some areas.

He says drains in Nineteen Mile, for example, could not handle the volume of water caused by the heavy rainfall.
