SRHA, Fontana Pharmacy launch educational book for new moms

Out of a desire to empower future generations, the Southern Regional Health Authority (SRHA) in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Fontana Pharmacy, led by Kevin O'Brien Chang, have embarked on an initiative, called the 'Good Health Begins At Home Programme', geared towards the education and support of parents.
The initiative, on Thursday, May 18, saw the launch of a booklet said to be the first of its kind to be used by the Ministry of Health.
According to the regional technical director, Dr Michael Coombs,"The Good Health Begins At Home initiative recognises the need to develop a user-friendly educational booklet to sensitise and educate parents and caregivers on what every parent should know about establishing the best foundation for the children's health and wellness."

He added that the book will pay keen attention to father inclusiveness, as studies have shown that too many mothers and children are without support.
The programme, which was piloted at Mandeville Regional Hospital, ensured each mother received a gift basket that included the booklet which highlights on prenatal care and postnatal care.
With a plan to implement this initiative across the island after a successful pilot, SRHA Chairman,Wayne Chen expressed that this augurs well for the country.
"This is an initiative that will have a lot of impact if it is fully embraced. The SRHA is committed to ensuring that the genuine example of public-private partnership will be leveraged to the best advantage of the people of this country."
