Correctional officer dies in Bog Walk Gorge
A man believed to be a correctional officer died this morning after the vehicle he was driving plunged into the Rio Cobre, in the Bog Walk Gorge, St Catherine.
The Jamaica Fire Brigade says the Linstead Fire Brigade received a call at 7:08 this morning regarding the incident.
Deputy Superintendent with responsibility for St Catherine, James Lee, says two fire units responded, but on arrival at the scene it was realised that the vehicle was out of reach.
He says a wrecker was called which managed to pull the Honda Civic from the water.
However, Deputy Superintendent Lee says emergency medical personnel were unable to revive the sole occupant of the motor car.
Deputy Superintendent Lee says the dead man is believed to be a correctional officer, but he says other details cannot be released until he is certain the man’s family has been contacted.
Meanwhile, he says investigations are continuing in relation to the circumstances of the man’s death.
He says alleged eyewitnesses have said the car was hit by a truck.
