FLA extends deadline for firearm renewal
Licence firearm holders who have failed to renew their permits have been given a reprieve.
The Firearm Licensing Authority (FLA) has extended the deadline for renewal to July 29.
The cut off would have been July 1.
The FLA says the management decided to give firearm holders more time in light of the overwhelming response from delinquents seeking to become compliant.
The authority is urging firearm holders to become regularise noting that those who miss the deadline will face prosecution.
Meanwhile, the FLA says its enforcement drive has been bearing fruit.
It says firearm holders, some of whom were non-compliant for over 14 years, have come forward to register and firearms which were never registered in the FLA system are now being registered.
