US$3m agreement signed for Safety and Security in Schools Project
The Ministry of Education, Youth and Information (MoEY&I) signed a US$3 million agreement with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Monday, to fund a project aimed at improving safety and security in schools.
The USAID/MoEY&I Partnership for Improved Safety and Security in Schools Project will among other things aim to reduce antisocial and violent behaviour among youth both in and out of school and provide co-curricular activities that will greater develop their social and life skills.
Speaking yesterday at the signing of the agreement at the Ministry’s National Heroes Circle Offices, Dean-Roy Bernard, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information said the funding will go a far way in helping to achieve the project’s objectives.
The project will be coordinated by the National Education Trust over the next two years.
