Prime Minister Holness calls on Diaspora to support Gov't growth thrust

Prime Minister Andrew Holness yesterday kicked off the Jamaica 55 Diaspora conference in Kingston calling on Jamaicans living overseas to continue to participate in the process of economic and social development as the Government seeks to chart a path to sustain growth.

The four-day conference, being held under the theme 'Partnering for Growth', coincides with some of the activities to mark Jamaica's 55th year of Independence.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has hailed members of the Diaspora for continuing to support Jamaica's development.

According to the Prime Minister, this year's Diaspora conference, which ends on Wednesday, is in line with a number of development plans across various sectors and the Government's thrust for growth. 

"I invite and I encourage you the Diaspora to participate in the process. The Government simply cannot do it alone," the Prime Minister declared.  

"We need the participation of all our citizens – whether home or abroad. It is therefore imperative that we build a strong symbiotic relationship among all Jamaicans across the globe," said Holness as he appealed for support. 

Convened every two years by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, the Diaspora conference brings together Jamaicans, home and abroad to discuss matters relating to national importance.

This year's conference is being held at the Jamaica Conference Centre in downtown Kingston.
