In this April 2016 file photo provided by the JDF an 18' tube of C-4 explosive and a home-made shotgun found in Trench Town is shown.

The Portland Police have taken a man into custody on allegations of making and selling illegal guns.

The police say the man, who is a resident of Springfield in the Hope Bay Valley, turned up at hospital suffering from gunshot wounds to his fingers.

He reportedly indicated that he was shot by two armed men during a robbery.

He allegedly told the police that during the ordeal he placed a hand over the muzzle of a gun and was shot, injuring his fingers.

However, the police say an investigation shows that the man is reportedly involved in the making of home-made handguns which are allegedly sold to criminals.

The police further say he reportedly injured his fingers while making a handgun that went off.
