Police seize AK-47 assault rifle and ammo

An AK-47 assault rifle and nearly 100 assorted rounds of ammunition were seized by the police at different locations yesterday.

The police report that the AK-47 rifle was found in a drum during a search of a premises on D'Aguilar Road in Kingston 2 last night.

They say seven 7.62 cartridges were also found.

No one was arrested.

Earlier in the day, 52 12-gauge cartridges were seized during an operation on Ducketts Road in St James.

Two more 12-gauge cartridges were seized during a snap raid on Grove Road in St Andrew about 2:45 in the afternoon.

Forty rounds of ammunition were seized in Old Harbour Bay, St Catherine.

Reports from the Old Harbour Bay Police are that about 8:10 in the evening, a police team was on patrol in Dagger Bay when they attempted to accost a man.

He, however, ran and dropped an object that was found to be a plastic bag.

The plastic bag was retrieved and searched and 25 9-millimetre cartridges, 10 12-gauge cartridges, four .38 cartridges and one  .45 cartridge were found.

No one was arrested in connection with the seizures
