Ombudsman probing firearm incident in Bellefield Division

The Office of the Political Ombudsman says it is actively probing allegations involving the discharge of a firearm in the Bellfield Division in St Mary.

The ombudsman's office confirmed that it was among a number of issues that were discussed during Friday’s meeting with the general secretaries of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and the People's National Party (PNP), but gave no details of the allegations.

It says both political parties condemned the use of violence in any form and the use of firearms by persons in any way related to the campaign.

The Office of the Political Ombudsman says both the JLP and the PNP, along with their candidates, are encouraging the police to investigate the allegations and take the appropriate action.

The ombudsman's office says further that both Dr Dunn and Dr Alexis have agreed to take corrective actions and ensure that public infrastructure and other facilities defaced by political graffiti are re-painted by today.
