Johnson Smith apologises to Morris in Senate

Senate leader Kamina Johnson Smith this morning apologised in the Senate to opposition senator Floyd Morris over comments she made during Friday’s sitting of the Upper House.

Morris took issue with new amendments to the National Identification and Registration Act that were brought to the Senate.

The opposition senator, who is visually impaired, requested an adjournment so that the material could be converted into a format which he could access.

However, Johnson Smith rejected the request saying that having recently obtaining a PhD and written an autobiography she believes that Morris would not have a difficulty following the proceedings.

Opposition senators took issue with the remarks and Johnson Smith withdrew the comment.

This morning she repeated her apology to Morris.
